Amaral De Melo, Antonio
Born Oct 29, 1919, in Azores, Portugal, passed away Sept. 9, 2012, in the comfort of his home and in the company of his daughter, Lina. He left this earth at the age of 90 and his memory will be cherished by his son, Tony; daughter, Lina; grand-children, Johanne and Eric Rufiange; and sons-in-law Jim Ernst, Real Rufiange, Edward Pedersen. He is pre-deceased by his wife Maria, his eldest daughter Marie Rufiange and infant child Gracina.Antonio immigrated to Canada in 1950 from the Azores, Portugal and worked in Quebec City and Kitimat before settling down in Dorval, Quebec, for the majority of his working years. He worked for Steinberg’s Grocery chain until he retired. After his retirement, in 1989, he moved to Victoria, BC, where the climate was milder and the growing season longer so he could indulge in his passion for gardening. His other passions included food, cooking, old fashion wine making and devotion to his family. The family would like to thank the Portuguese Groupe de Terceira-idade (seniors group) for the years of enjoyment and companionship they provided. We would also like to thank his caregivers Hilda, Julietta and especially Evangeline Rojas for her compassion and caring in his final months. He was so well loved by so many people and will always be in our thoughts and hearts.Prayer service will held at 7:00 pm Thursday, Sept. 13th at Our Lady of Fatima Church located at 4635 Elk Lake Drive, Victoria. An English/Portuguese funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept 14th at 11:00 am, also at Our Lady of Fatima Church, followed by interment at Royal Oak Burial Park (at Terraces by the mausoleum water fountain). It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jaime Pacheco Amaral on September 13, 2012, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on July 20, 1935 in Azores, Portugal, then moved to Brazil in 1958 where he and his loving wife lived and raised their family for 16 years. He then moved to Victoria in 1973, where he enjoyed working for the City of Victoria. He will be forever remembered for his devout love of his family, his sense of humour and kindness. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years Maria; his children Sueli, Delson and Marco (Terryl); his 5 grandchildren Denise, Jennifer, Cheyenne, Tyler and Noah who were the light of his eyes, and many family and friends.Prayers will be offered at McCALL BROS. Maria was born in Sao Miguel Açores, Portugal on July 4, 1937. She passed away peacefully on April 2, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. May 18, 1948 to February 23, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joao Carlos, he passed away with his beloved Fatima by his side at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Joao immigrated to Canada from Sao Miguel, Azores in 1974, he came to marry his sweetheart and start his family in Victoria. Here he worked as a mason landscaper for 35 years, with Fatima by his side they cultivated a new life for their family. Pre-deceased by his parents Clara and Angelo. Survived by his wife Fatima, son Roberto (Ashley), daughter Sandra and his precious granddaughter Sofia, sisters Zelia Poim (Antonio) and Conceica Oliveira (Joao), and his many nieces and nephews. As part of a close knit Portuguese community Joao will also be missed by friends, neighbours and all who worked with him. He will be put to rest in the walls he himself had a hand in building at Royal Oak. We can be assured heavens gardens will be lovingly tended to. Maria da Conçeicăo Correia was born in Sao Miguel Acores, Portugal and has called Victoria home for the last 43 years. Predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Mariano; Maria leaves behind her six children, Fatima (Teotonio) Lima, Grace (Norman) McCrimmon, Carmen (Armando) Furtado, Maria (William) Taylor, Siadalia (Chris) Whimbey and Tony (Shandra) Correia; nine grandchildren, Mario, Rose, Christopher, Carmen, Herb, Rachelle, Andrea, Antonio, Sephia and four great grandchildren, Alexander, Tye, Kayla and Matthew. Her love of baking and Portuguese cuisine was at the heart of our family gatherings. In her earlier years, she loved to visit her homeland and return with something for everyone. She loved to shop and found pleasure in finding her bargains. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered. Surrounded by love and in the comfort of her home, Mom passed away peacefully on March 7, 2015.
She was born in Achadinha, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on November 5, 1926. However, Victoria has been her home since immigrating to Canada in January 1957.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Antonio (Tony) Eduardo Moniz along with 7 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her 7 children, Eduardo, Ermelinda (Jose), Maria (Mike), Rosa (Harry), Carlos (Kelly), Lidia (Tom), Tony (Kellie); 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother Tony and a large extended family.
Her early years in Victoria were spent caring for her children but also included working at Butchart Gardens until her retirement in 1991. 35 years were enjoyed on their hobby farm in Sidney with final years in Saanich; throughout all, there was the support and love from the Victoria Portuguese Community. Mom will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A special thank you to the Victoria Hospice Palliative Response Team that aided in her comfort at home in her final days. Beloved wife of the late António Couto Ramos passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the age of 96. She is survived by her loving children, António (Conceição), Leonilda (Gilberto) Adelaide (José), José Maria (Iberia), Ermelinda (Avelino), Margarida (João Firminio, deceased in 2010), João (Maria Da Luz); twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
