4th Sunday
This Sunday we look at Jesus, prophet. Prophet is the one who speaks instead of another. Jesus talks to us instead of God, teaching us things never heard before, with all authority. At the same time, He frees us from negative forces and gives us new life.
One of those things never heard before is the value of virginity - as loving service to people, as described in the 2nd reading

4º Domingo
Neste Domingo olhamos para Jesus, profeta.
Profeta é aquela que fala em vez de outrem. Jesus fala-nos em nome de Deus, ensinando-nos coisas nunca ouvidas com toda a autoridade. Ao mesmo tempo liberta-nos das forças negativas e confere-nos vida nova.
Uma dessas novidades por Ele ensinada é o valor da virgindade quando vivida por amor serviçal às pessoas.
Virginity for the sake of the Kingdom
Christ is the center of all Christian life. The bond with him takes precedence over all other bonds, familial or social. From the very beginning of the Church there have been men and women who have renounced the great good of marriage to follow the Lamb wherever he goes, to be intent on the things of the Lord, to seek to please him, and to go out to meet the Bridegroom who is coming. Christ himself has invited certain persons to follow him in this way of life, of which he remains the model:
"For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."– Catechism of the Catholic Church
A Virgindade Por Amor do Reino
Cristo é o centro de toda a vida cristã. A união com Ele prevalece sobre todas as outras, quer se trate de laços familiares, quer sociais. Desde o princípio da Igreja, houve homens e mulheres que renunciaram ao grande bem do matrimónio, para seguirem o Cordeiro aonde quer que Ele vá, para cuidarem das coisas do Senhor, para procurarem agradar-Lhe para saírem ao encontro do Esposo que vem. O próprio Cristo convidou alguns a seguirem-n'O neste modo de vida, de que Ele é o modelo:
«Há eunucos que nasceram assim do seio materno; há os que foram feitos eunucos pelos homens; e há os que a si mesmos se fizeram eunucos por amor do Reino dos céus. Quem puder entender, entenda!» - Catecismo da Igreja Católica.
World Day of the Sick
Saturday, February 11 at 6:30pm there will be a mass in which the sick qualifying for the reception of the Holy Unction will be anointed. If you qualify and wish to receive it contact the rectory prior to coming to mass.
The Sacrament of the sick is for the baptized Catholic who:
• begins to be in danger to sickness or old age
• or will be having a serious surgery due to a dangerous illness
• or is not seriously ill but is weakened by old age

Dia Mundial do Doente
é em 11 de Fevereiro, Sábado. Às 6:30pm há a missa habitual em que serão ungidos os doentes que, qualificando para isso, o pedirem.
O Sacramento dos Enfermos é para os doentes baptizados catòlicos que:
• começam a estar em perigo devido à doença ou à idade avançada
• ou vão ser sujeitos a uma operação séria, por causa de doença perigosa
• ou começam a ficar debilitados devido à idade, embora não gravemente doentes.

6th Sunday
Today, we find Jesus healing a leper.
It is a miraculous event which makes the liberation to the poor and unhappy evident as announced by Him; and places the unhappy man back into his community. This gesture is a very clear sign that noone should be excluded from the family of God’s children.
However, it wasn’t the attitude taken at the time, as the 1st reading informs us.
The lepers were excluded.
It is necessary, therefore, to change our attitudes, by placing more intrest in others needs that our own. Especially the needs of the weakest, as it is taught in the 2nd reading.
6º Domingo
Deparamos na líturgia deste dia com a cura de um leproso.
Trata-se dum acontecimento miraculoso que evidencia a libertação aos pobres e infelizes anunciada por Jesus e integra o leproso infeliz na sua comunidade. Este gesto é um sinal muito claro de que ninguém deve ser excluído da família dos filhos de Deus.
No entanto, não era esse o procedimento corrente, como se lê na 1ª leitura. Os leprosos eram excluídos.
É necessário, pois, afinar nossas atitudes, entregando-nos a procurar menos o próprio interesse e mais o bem dos outros, especialmente dos mais fracos, como ensina a 2ª leitura.
7th Sunday
Today we have readings that call particular attention to the forgiveness of sins.
The purpose of Jesus’ incarnation was pecisely in order to take away our sins.
He came to bring us the good news of the Father’s forgiveness. May we beleive and love this good news.
7º Domingo
As leituras de hoje chamam-nos a atenção para o perdão dos pecados?
Afinal Jesus incarnou precisamente para isso – para tirar nossos pecados.
Ele veis trazer-nos a boa-nova do perdão que o Pai nos concede.
Acreditemos nós e vivamos essa boa-nova.
Lent
This liturgical season is again at the door. It is a time destined to strengthening our relationship as children of the Heavenly Father and as brothers and sisters, through persistent purification, deep prayer and fraternal sharing.
It starts with the ritual of the blessing and imposition of ashes which, this year, occurs on February 22nd , next Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
Don’t forget to participate and remember, it is a day of fasting and abstinence of meat.

É um tempo litúrgico destinado a fortalecer nosso relacionamento de filhos de Deus e de irmãos uns dos outros através de purificação constante, oração intensa e partilha fraterna. Começa com o ritual de bênção e imposição de cinzas que, este ano, ocorre em 22 de Fevereiro, Quarta-feira. É às 7 pm. Lembre-se de participar e não se esqueça de que é Dia de jejum e abstinencia.
