She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Henrique Pacheco de Amaral; loving mother of José Alberto (Maria), Norberto, Jaime (Helena), Jorgina (Dinis) and Célia; loving grandmother of Christopher, Kevin, Lucas and Emily. She was predeceased by her son, Edwardo in 1979 and husband, Henrique in 2009.

May 18, 1948 to February 23, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joao Carlos, he passed away with his beloved Fatima by his side at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Joao immigrated to Canada from Sao Miguel, Azores in 1974, he came to marry his sweetheart and start his family in Victoria. Here he worked as a masonlandscaper for 35 years, with Fatima by his side they cultivated a new life for their family. Pre-deceased by his parents Clara and Angelo. Survived by his wife Fatima, son Roberto (Ashley), daughter Sandra and his precious granddaughter Sofia, sisters Zelia Poim (Antonio) and Conceica Oliveira (Joao), and his many nieces and nephews. As part of a close knit Portuguese community Joao will also be missed by friends, neighbours and all who worked with him. He will be put to rest in the walls he himself had a hand in building at Royal Oak. We can be assured heavens gardens will be lovingly tended to. Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 23, 2009 at the age of 84. Maria da Conçeicăo Correia was born in Sao Miguel Acores, Portugal and has called Victoria home for the last 43 years. Predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Mariano; Maria leaves behind her six children, Fatima (Teotonio) Lima, Grace (Norman) McCrimmon, Carmen (Armando) Furtado, Maria (William) Taylor, Siadalia (Chris) Whimbey and Tony (Shandra) Correia; nine grandchildren, Mario, Rose, Christopher, Carmen, Herb, Rachelle, Andrea, Antonio, Sephia and four great grandchildren, Alexander, Tye, Kayla and Matthew. Her love of baking and Portuguese cuisine was at the heart of our family gatherings. In her earlier years, she loved to visit her homeland and return with something for everyone. She loved to shop and found pleasure in finding her bargains. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered.

Alfredo immigrated to Canada at the age of 30, and we are so grateful that he landed in Victoria, BC to start a new chapter in his life. After working various jobs, he discovered his passion for gardening, and was employed as such for 18 years until retiring from the municipality of Oak Bay. He was predeceased by his parents Antonio Tavares Perdigao, Maria do Espirito Santo Curvelo, his sisters, Urania, Olympia, Eugenia, Maria, and his brother Antonio.
Alfredo is survived by his wife Madalena; his sister Laura in Brazil; his children Fred (Grace), Louisa, Suzana (Barry) Kalyn; grandchildren Tyler, Jeffrey, Selena, Alyssa, along with his many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was born in the village of Ponta Garça, on the island of São Miguel, Açores (Portugal) and immigrated to Canada in 1963. He founded Victoria Landscaping Ltd. in 1970. That same year he married his best friend.
Manuel and the family enjoyed frequent vacations back home to São Miguel. He always looked forward to planning his next adventure with his wife and family. He lived life to the fullest and will forever be in our hearts. His zest for life, respect for others, positive attitude and selfless acts will always be remembered. And you will be met at the gates in Heaven by your father, Manuel, cousin, Antonio Maria, brother-in-law, Artur and many good friends and family previously lost.
You fought with grace and are the warrior we will never forget!

Maria Paixao Costa Furtado
1914 – 2009 Surrounded by her large and loving family, the beloved Furtado matriarch , Maria Paixao Costa passed away with peace and dignity on May 12, 2009.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Manuel in 1959 and her adored son, Manuel (Virginia). She is survived by her 7 children; Maria Adelina (Manuel), António (Manuela), Senhorinha (Virginio), Manuela (António), Isabel (Barry), Armando (Helena), Natalia (Vivaldo); her 27 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Maria was born on April 9, 1914 in Ponta Garça, Sao Miguel, Portugal and immigrated to Canada in 1967. She lived with her family until she moved into her Gordon Head home where she proudly lived independently for 30 years. Her home is where countless cherished memories were created and strong family bonds were formed, especially the “Sunday Nights at Vavó’s”. Never one with idle hands, she was passionate about her gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. She will be fondly remembered for her amazing example of unconditional love, endless generosity and incredible faith. The grandchildren will never forget her unique way of making you feel special, the huge picture wall of family and the unending supply of “gama”.
To our family’s queen Vavó for which our family stood strong and united, you are the foundation and inspiration to us all and will remain in our hearts and thoughts forever. Nossa querida mae e vavó, que nunca sera esquecida! Beijinhos e abraços!

, Maria do Carmo Passed away with her daughters at her side in Victoria, BC on February 21, 2010. She was born in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal on December 14, 1920 and immigrated to Canada on July 1, 1993. Predeceased by her husband Joao Pedro de Medeiros and her son Joao Fracisco de Medeiros. She is survived by her daughters Fatima (David Amaral), Manuela (Manuel Teixeira), Zita Teixeira, Lizette (Jose Augustinho Tavares), Eduarda (Nicolau Goncalves), as well as, fifteen grandchildren and eighteen greatgrandchildren. Maria was a hard worker and very dedicated to her family. She was an active member of the church, especially spending afternoons playing cards with the Golden Age Group. July 21, 2010 It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather. John passed away peacefully on July 20, 2010.John was born December 14, 1921 in Ponta Garca, Azores and moved to Victoria in 1966 with his wife, Mariana and two children.
John was a proud, hard working, honest man all his life. He was a good husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family and give them the best life he could. John was a passionate gardener who took immense pride in his garden and greenhouse. His biggest joy in life was his family and his gardens.
John will be missed and remembered by his family, son John Mariano (Piedade); daughter, Lucia and grandchildren: Paulo (Mary), Arnaldo, Carla, Leanna, Cassandra and Salina and his great grandson; Noah.
